Enemy Lists

Alright, first of the smaller strips. This one is a continuation of Adam and Fred as Grandpa’s henchmen. Hopefully that’ll mean two more strips this week. We’ll see.

How about that new site layout huh?

This is a great strip. Very clean, very well paced. The expressions in the 3rd and 4th panels, while very subtle, a right on. Now to be nit picking. The 3rd and 4th panels are just slightly different in size. I do it also, but it still bugs me. I would prefer having a drastic size shift, or no change at all. Grandpa in the last panel is a little too far away. I want to see more detail, but I can’t zoom in to his face. Like I said, I am looking for issues. All around, I think this is your best strip yet. Graphicly it is very detailed without being cluttered, and the writing was unexpected.

Must be too early for us old folk. Somehow my post ended up on Back on Track.
Mental Note:FUNNY! (Sometimes it’s best to keep older folks back in a corner.)
    Format totally rocks!

Mental Note 3 (Including Grandpa’s): rhhh has now been attached to the top of the declared enemies list.

  4. Kevin

Maybe we should add him to the secret enemies list so rhhh doesn’t retaliate by posting something extremely clever like “you guys REALLY suck”.

I have to say, while I enjoyed the JPATM Grande strips, I really REALLY like this format. It’s not overdone, the artwork is great, it keeps my attention (ADHD is a beeyotch). Hope to see more.

Okay, Kev. I have to call you out on this one. I can ignore most of your opinions in today’s comment (not sure why you made them public but whatever), but why do you say the writing is “unexpected”?

  7. Kevin

I meant it as a compliment. Most comic strips involve the use of a “set-up”. Often times, for the sake of clarity, the set-up is done in such a way that “a blind man could follow the tracks” to the joke. Even though you can clearly see that you are being set up from the beginning with this strip, the dialog is completely unexpected (at least in my mind). With every utterance, I would have expected something completely different to come next. This is exactly what I want in a strip.
To continue with the writing, I think reverting to the standard size strip helped with this gag. It is very precisely written and I think the larger format would have drawn it out too much. Timing is everything in humor, and this is timed perfectly.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback.

Also, I’d like to apologize in advance if I don’t respond to anyone’s feedback today, but I’m kinda swamped at work.

    See you all tomorrow (hopefully)

Nice work, man. I like this smaller format too. Still looks excellent, still funny and probably saves a lot of time (?) The city skyline on the bottom is a great touch on the new site layout.

whewwww…OK…I made it. I was looking all over for you guys.

LOVIN’ this strip size. WHY? It forces you, US, to tighten our writing and really think about the art. I just want to take Adam and give him kisses and huggies.

What would Adam do if I attempted that?

  11. JC

dammit! When i saw the “Enemy Lists” strip’s title in my bookmark toolbar I thought you had declared war on some other comic sites! Oh well, good comic though…

  12. The Bug

Love the new strip size and site layout. Keep it, the art gets better, just like Jarrett oh-so-wisely pointed out. If you do declare war on other comic sites, I will be first to volunteer. Unless I was sleeping at the time. In which case I will be the first to let out a snore.

Great strip. It raises the difficult question: does our nerdy hero let the cat out of the bag on the Secret Enemies List merely because of a lack of tact, derived from his social status as a nerd, or is he intentionally being a pain in the butt, our of disrespect for Grandpa’s pathetic schemes?

Considering his previous, sucessful forays into snark, I choose the latter option.

  14. Eugene

Though, come to think of it, I may be overestimating him.

  15. jim (JP&TM creator)

Well, I sort of know the answer I think, but it is difficult to truly fathom the complexities of the nerd mind.

  16. The Enemies List Story Continues, Adam and Fred walk and talk, and listen for maniacal laughter.

[…] The smaller strips continue. This strip is a continuation of The Enemies List strip. I know there were two strips in between, but hey, life goes […]
