Odds on the Rapture
The Announcer has been talking to Adam again, so Adam needs some clarification on his place in the cosmic scheme.
Where does a slightly off cyborg boy stand in the grand scheme of things? Why have I done two vaguely religious based comics this week?
I don’t know.
In JP&TM related news, I’ve added a ’share this’ button at the bottom of the posts now, so if you like Jetpacks and Time Machines, and you take part in any of that social bookmarking/networking type of stuff, why not help spread the word?

Dude… your comic here freakin rules. Seriously, i love it.

Thanks Etienne! I try.
Spread the word.
If you want to, I mean. (That’s not actually a direct order or anything.)

Granny’s hairdo is so funny! Seriously, that is the part of the whole strip that made me laugh the most.

Hi Jim,
I’m guessing from all the various reactions you’ve had so far that The Announcer could be a character that - maybe - pops up only now and again. His ramblings having the disruptive effect that they do, is always going to be entertainig - he dosen’t even need to be in the strip for this to work - continually half-hidden?? - you could spin a thread from “The Announcer said . . .,” and have Adam and Fred go off on some tangent or other?? I can’t say I’m keen on Grandma too much - but what do I know eh?? I think the strip might work well without her - you never saw the parents or the teacher (Miss Othmar??) in Peanuts did you? I LOVE Grandpa, AND the fact the Grandpa is only partially seen while he’s pontificating in this strip - it makes him all the more despotic some how, and I really smiled at that ! - that plus he has some nice flowers to keep him company while he reminises - all mad like !
I think you’ve got the format about right as the larger 2 tier strip fills my monitor screen nicely.
Keep it all up ! It great! ! ! I wanna see what happens next !
Bye’ for now,
Jan

Thanks guys…
@ bug: Thanks for the feedback!
@ Jan: We’ll have to see about Grandma… She’s only made two appearances so far I believe, and I’ve definitely got some work ahead to establish her personality, but if I can, I think she’ll fit well, and she could make a nice foil for grandpa.

I think you should get rid og Adam and Fred and focus the strip around Serial the Monkey. The syndicates would eat it up and I think there is an opening in the monkey genre.
Panel one is the best Silhouette you have ever done for Adam & Fred. (notice how I am always referencing your characters names so the readers take them into their hearts)
The nudist tornado made me laugh because my uncle’s roomates parents were nudists…god they made me uncomfortable as a kid in the shallow end of his inground pool. Where was that tornado then?
Last panel, hard on my eyes…is there a simmer down setting on your cintiq?

Jim- I agree with Jarrett on both the last panel, and the monkey. Think of all the sexual innuendo in a strip about a monkey. If you made the flock of nudist a reoccuring theme it could become dangerous. though.
Jarrett- Thanks for the insight into your childhood…suddenly TPOM starts to make sense.

Kevin…thanks for agreeing with me. 3 yrs married and I can’t remember the last time that happened.

@Jarrett and Kevin: You know what I think? I think you guys are idiots!
I kid. I’m not ditching the kids though, the monkey isn’t complex enough. That being said, I do plan on doing some more monkey-based jokes.

Jarrett: I just [cough] celebrated 10 years and have 3 kids. I know how few and far between it is to be considered right.
Jim: I wouldn’t dump the kids, I just think the monkey deserves a spin-off.

Jim, I hope to see this comics in print one day. Seriously. It tickles my brain with pleasure.
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:43 am
I would too Mischo. Hopefully, if everything goes as planned, I’ll figure out how to do that.

This is BRILLIANT.
I’m not a connoisseur of art like many of the posters here, so you’ll excuse my lack of commentary there, but as far as lines go, the last panel is INSTANT CLASSIC, with the second panel not far behind. That second panel line from Grandma is the kind of things t-shirts are made of.
And by ‘t-shirts are made of,’ I mean make one, so I can buy it. Or something. Because it’s hilarious.

By the way, I just remembered, with the help of Jan, that you had mentioned wanting to do C&H Sunday-sized comics. I would scroll for that. Even though you would have to mke a seriously large comic to make me scroll, as the current ones barely fill 1/4 of my screen.
August 4th, 2007 at 12:57 pm
@Jarrod: Hey thanks! I’ve been working on the writing more, so hopefully the dialog will only get better. Eventually there will be merchandise… That’s one more thing I hope to offer in the future.
@ The Bug: What the heck sized monitor are you looking at? For clarification, I’d make it scroll vertically, not horizontally, so it wouldn’t be true C&H size comics, they’d be the vertical equivalent in square inches though.

A freakishly high resolution one. Even for widescreen. Which is actually a pain in the ass most of the time.
August 5th, 2007 at 2:22 pm
If you’re going to make merchandise, don’t forget the lucrative beer cozy market.
August 5th, 2007 at 4:20 pm
@bug:Yeah, I’m working on two monitors, for a total size of 3420×1200. As long as I keep it organized, it helps my productivity, but if I start opening too many programs and flipping between them, I can end up getting a little lost.
@ furious: YES! The beer cozy market! That is one I had forgotten, but I’ll have to check it out.
August 5th, 2007 at 11:12 pm
Beer cozys! Or however you pluralize that. I shall hereby dance a jig in celebration of JTM-themed beer cozys.
August 6th, 2007 at 7:28 am
I will only but a beer cozy if you include Serial the Monkey!
