    Another lovely strip, Jim. And funny!

    Just what the hell did Fred and Serial fire at that kite? A frag grenade? That’s one messed-up kite. Love the collapsing string. And I love Serial flinging pebbles at Factoid. That monkey has atttitude to spare.

    You certainly have a great way of drawing trees, branches, shrubs, etc - seems to be almost a specialty of yours. Have you studied them in particular, or are you just that naturally talented (note the clever ego-massage opening, there)?

    My ten year old son made his first slingshot the other day - now for something bigger and better! SSMDs, anyone?

    Enjoying the storyline Jim.

    …one with thermonuclear weapons!

    The sketchy-ness on the kite is new. Almost looks like you actually picked up (gasp) a pencil.

    When you started sketching Serial, did it start out as a skull or something? Everytime I see him I notice the line around what would be the fleshy part of his face. If you take off the ears and furry line around his head, it looks kinda like Grimm from the “Adventures of Billy and Mandy”.

    I love the hats.
    I think this one might progress along the lines of a C&H water fight….balloons to hoses to swimming pools.

    Jim,
    This seems like a very, very promising storyline. I love how Fred’s wearing the WWI German kaiser helmet, and his eagerness to start a war. Actually, considering history, he could be a good symbol for the kaiser. He was eager to go to war in 1914 too…
    I have never seen a kite get shot down before, not even in the comics. And I like the imagery in that first panel. The more of that monkey there is, the better.

    Very funny! I laughed out loud at this one.

    @doug: Primarily doug, i’d worked on drawing characters, not backgrounds, but ever since I’ve started this comic, I’ve been consciously working on improving both my drawings of trees and my drawings of buildings and architecture. So far i’ve been seeing steady improvement.

    @PTAA, Wit, MJ, and Scott: Thanks guys!

    @Kevin: There will be escalation.

    @me!: No pencils allowed. Serial actually started out much more monkey-like in his first iteration, back when I was in college, and he’s steadily evolved since then with each strip I did. In the last version, he had more of a squarish head, but he looked just like the monkey from Joe and Monkey, so I did a little redesigning.
