Podcastery

This past week I made another visit to Comics Coast to Coast, in an attempt to convince Justin Thompson that not only can he or anybody else set up a comic website, but that it’s also a worthwhile endeavor. I’m not sure if I was successful or not.

Having set up and altered a comic press site or two (or a bunch, and sometimes dramatically altered them) I did my best to help Brian explain as many of the nuts and bolt of setting up a site as we could, and I think we covered a lot of ground. That being said, if any would be cartoonist/webmasters out there have any questions, feel free to ask. You can email me at jim (AT) jetpacksandtimemachines.com

I just found the Coast-to-Coast guys via John Read of Stay Tooned magazine. I promptly got hooked and I’m playing catch up with the podcasts. Just wanted to tell you that, yes, you were successful. I am in the process of –trying– to set up a comic website. I had always wanted to, but kept putting it off. I’m a full-time designer in NYC, currently the AD for a financial publisher. But since I was a wee one, I’ve loved comics and cartooning. I do some freelance work for Papercutz and I volunteer at MoCCA. But it’s time to do some of my own stuff before they throw dirt in my face and it’s too late.
A friend of mine has made me an offer I can’t refuse: half of his table for free at next year’s MoCCA Art Festival and now you and the C-to-C guys are dumping all this great info into my lap. Gotta be a sign from God. ;)
Great site and ‘toons, BTW. It’s just the kind of site I’d love to have myself. Except it’s your content and not mine. (Gotta get to work on that. . .)
    Best,
    JMc

Hey John. I am a friend of Jim’s. You have found yourself one of the best talents out there so welcome. I often answer for Jim as he is a full time astronaut, unlike those part time hacks.

Jim has taught me a few things once said site is up, soif you ever need some help, feel free to email me and I will do what i can.

See how I did that? I responded to a new voice, offered my assistance, and then plugged my own site… http://www.somedayhero.com

    That’s the way I roll. ;)

Give me a shout anytime. jarrettosborne (at) gmail (dot) com

@John: Good to hear from you John, and good to hear you’re jumping into the fun and yet horribly frustrating world of web cartooning. Good luck. Feel free to drop by again with your name linked to your site when you get it up. Also, if you run into any trouble, feel free to email me or check out the comic press forums for help.

@Jarrett: Sheesh. Get back to your side of the internet!

Jim, thanks so much for the quick reply. I think it’s really cool that your site comes with its own stalker (Hi, Jarrett!)
Thank you both for the warm welcome to the world of Web cartooning. (I love alliteration.) I swear cartoonists and comic book creators are some of the best people on the planet.
I’ve subscribed to you guys and look forward to lots of great storytelling from both of you. If you’re on Facebook, look me up. Or just e-mail me at: SurfsideCity(at)gmail(dot)com.
    Best,
    –JMc
